What is Tenmoku tea ware?

Tenmoku glaze is rich in iron, producing colorful, lustrous surfaces. During firing, iron forms oil-spot or streaked patterns that make each piece unique.

Do they contain lead?

Since clay comes from the earth, we cannot guarantee 100% lead-free ware, but lead content is below 0.01% and safe to use. The glaze flux uses natural iron ore and charcoal; no lead is added.

It is beautiful I haven’t used it yet as I want to get the right kind of tea. The problem is it is so beautiful I’m actually afraid to spoil it by using it. My main concern is the dragon at the bottom of the bowl, keeping it clean after use for example. It is a piece of art and I’m saving to buy something else slightly different.
